for your appreciation- Here is my October poem
Leaves ,leaves, colored leaves , around the hickory tree.
This hitchhiker is watching now the maple, oak, and old beech tree.
It's a long way to Bay de Noc. I go without a smiley - towel
The harvest smiley - moon is shining; the wind begins to howl.
It's autumn in the Great Lakes States; it's putting on a show.
We all have mixed emotions though,
Because too soon the cars and trucks,
Will skate upon the snowsmiley - yikes.

Hi Shagbark!

Thanks for this truly wonderful poem. The rhyming and structure are excellent, and the imagery very effective indeed. To someone living in England, it really conveys a feeling of the great spaces in North America -the wind howling across the Great Lake States was much more evocative than just focussing on the States or the Lakes separately. And the mention of the leaves in 'colours' and the beautiful images of the trees add to this - the hickory, maple, oak and the old (nice detail) beech tree - as well as drawing the attention back to October and the falling leaves. A lot of feeling is conveyed by returning to the trees like this.

The very specific mention of the Bay de Noc right in the centre of the poem is a triumph - a very concrete image with the rest of the poem swirling round it like the leaves. The poem also imitates its subject by falling from the many leaves at the start to the cars skating on the snow in the end. Brilliant! An absolutely beautiful and sweet little poem.smiley - oksmiley - rose

VOGONY #1

DUCKS

Ducks are pretty things that swim in ponds and rivers
And waddle along by the sides
Of ponds and rivers.
Like pigeons, though
They're not very nice with chips.
Fish are much better with chips than ducks are.
In fact they're the nicest things you can have with chips
Except beefburgers sometimes when you're out shopping
But then you call them fries.

I can just see those ducks waddling beside a river by restaurant there
This seems to be free verse right? I don't detect much rhyme but it works well just the way it is. Overall a very nice poem smiley - smiley

Rising from the Ashes

Here's an older poem of mine you might appreciate:
I call it the reluctant Phoenix.
smiley - boing
There is a day in the Life of a Phoenix
A Day to Reach an end.
A Day to Put a stop to tricks
And leave every friend.
It's necessary even fate...
To end this chaper on this date.
I know it is not death I face,...
But rejunenation in it's place.
Still the price is just to high-
Forget my friends, my past,my all?
Must I submit to the siren's song?
But I am old, my wings they tire...
And I will die without the pyre...
Still I hate to enter the fire...
And Forget the things I know,...
Yet I must go,I gosmiley - sadface

The Phoenix young and strong and brave,
Rises from his fiery grave.
The Past forgotten, the present his all.
His future looms before him;
He rises to the call.
For centuries he'll go forward.
He would not pause nor wait.
He is a young and mighty bird.
Only the old would hesitatesmiley - flyhi
