I've written some fiction - this is an entirely novel facet of my creative existence!

Actually, it came out of a writing challenge at http://www.bramblestory.com - "Write a scene, short story or poem mentioning all of the following: (1) Santa Claus, (2) a menorah, (3) a small dog, (4) a major work of art, (5) saffron, (6) two signs of the zodiac, (7) inclement weather, (8) a sapphire, (9) ants, and (10) words in a foreign language. There is no length requirement or restriction."

So that's what I did. I trust it's sufficiently seasonal.smiley - xmastree

Cyzaki

I like it smiley - smiley

One nit-pick - you've used 'voluminous' twice quite close together, which jarred a bit, is there another word you could use the second time?

Otherwise, it's a good story smiley - biggrin

Rains - Wondering where time's going and why it's in so much of a hurry!

This is a smiley - cool story, and I rather liked it.

I also picked up on what Cyzaki mentioned about voluminous.

I'm not familiar with Norman Rockwell paintings, but I think explaining them more would detract from the story, as you paint a picture of stereotypical American families, which was about my understanding of what Rockwell's paintings were. I'm a bit of a philistine when it comes to art!

Well done - I would have struggled with that story challenge, and you make it seem easy smiley - biggrin.

I changed the second 'voluminous' to 'vast'.smiley - smiley

Rockwell illustrated the covers of 'The Saturday Evening Post' (I don't really know when - the 1950s maybe?) and the pictures are usually thought of as the most classic of Americana. They feature kids going swimming and eating apple pie and that sort of thing and are really quite disgusting in their idealism. There are a bunch of them hanging on the wall in a restaurant that my sister loves - with the unfortunate consequence that we sometimes have to go there.

I'm glad to hear you say that I made it seem easy, Rains, because it wasn't at all!
