This subject has great comic potential - I'll see what I can do with it.

New entry is A13524905 - it's under construction now (by which I mean I'm leaning on a shovel and doing no work).

Since you ask, it is actually snowing here as I write - it won't amount to enough to shovel though. But, I really ought to get cracking on that entry - I guess shovels do mean work one way or another.
I'll see how far I can get this weekend. Thanks for the reminder.
Btw, I don't readily find shovels in your dictionary of Strine - is there anything I should know about the subject from the down-under point of view? Feel free to make something up.
Thanks again

Ah, in Oz we call a spade a spade, and a shovel. It's the same tool, regardless of shape;
Pass me the shovel mate.
What? You mean the spade?
Yeah.
Other than the old shovelling of food, there's not much more Aussies do with shovels, although we do use 'em to take the sharp end off of a brown snake if a shotgun isn't handy.

Oh yes, snakes - I'd forgotten about that. I'll work that in.
Plus, while I intend to focus solely on the shovel, It will be necessary to mention that they are somewhat interchangeable in common speech, though not in actual use - I have never heard of anyone falling asleep with their chin resting on a spade, after all.

(oh bother)
I suppose I really ought to attend to this...
My original thinking was that shovels ought to have some comic potential so I'll see if I can recapture that vision. You know, leaning on your shovel next to a pile of snow while somebody else goes whizzing down the slope on theirs.
Thanks for the reminder
