Some of the magazines (linux format and linux magazine and pcplus and pcw) do include plenty of perfectly good free software, and can even include things like "REDSHIFT 2" (no in version 4) which are complete commercial packages, but are not for sale because they would cost about the same as the new version. A lot of the magazines now include lots of free linux software.
