'I don't think PR should be used to support The Post and its word games unless the Entry works on its own.'

The 'word games' you so disparagingly refer to are set by me, Galaxy Babe and Pinniped. The submissions that have been made to PR and AWW have livened both fora and have made the FP in the form of both EG and UG pieces - and this is something reviewers in both fora have suggested they need, sometimes explicitly. If this had been for the benefit of, or under the control of, The Post, don't you think we'd have run the articles ourselves? If you don't like the competition or anything that goes on in it and would like to debate it, then fine - I'm sure you can find the competition pages and our personal spaces easily enough.

In the case of more creative challenges such as this, it is up to the writer which forum they decide to submit to - they are all grown-ups and experienced writers who can read the submission guidelines and make their own minds up about where they feel their work fits best. It doesn't take a BSc or an MA to work it out, does it? And if a piece is submitted to PR and fits the competition challenge but not the EG Guidelines, it's not as if the author doesn't have time to work on it.

My favourite writers try to step outside their boundaries once in a while and try something different. It doesn't always work. I applaud their efforts, though, and if the good burghers of PR don't like it then the UnderGuide often benefits from some wonderful writing. If there was a consensus that Stretcher Entries in PR were continually inappropriate and were getting slogged out of the park, we'd set AWW-only challenges instead, but I think most of them are creating a bit of a buzz, and they've all made the FP so far.

Far from this supporting The Post, The Post is in a very healthy position right now and we don't need to be publishing this column. In fact, we are only having one piece a fortnight submitted to us (the column itself); AWW and PR are having 12 submissions between them over the same period. Who's supporting who?

Gb, in the past you've hit some rocky roads with your entries, and you remove them from PR. I had hoped with the amount you have under your belt these days you'd ride out the tougher times rather than just remove the entries.

I hope that this is one you do bring back once you've had some time to rethink, because personally I quite like Jade (what wiv her coming from just down the road from me and everyfink) and think you are capablle of making this a really good entry.

Maybe I will. I removed it because I don't have the energy to devote to the arguments. I have a lot on at the moment though, so it may end up in the Flea Market.
