>>Who no's how many took a golly on a trip to a strange home in the countryside?

Shouldn't it be 'who knows?'

Apart from that minor thing it's a very good article smiley - smiley

Moving On

>>It's possible Queen Victoria's grandchildren played with one when she was a little girl.<<

Maybe I'm reading that wrongly, but if Victoria was a child, how could she have grandchildren? Shouldn't it be either:

(a) it is possible Queen Victoria played with one when *she was a child

or

(b) It is possible Queen Victoria's grandchildren played with [a golly]

>>Because they were soft bodied they could be easily washed so it didn't matter if baby slung it out of the pram<<

Maybe the word "slung" could be replaced with the word "threw" or "hurled"? I just think it sounds better.

I agree, thrown seems like a better more common phrase like when people say 'he threw the toys out the pram' when they mean someone got stroppy.

I think the author would prefer us to comment in the thread they linked to above though, in case you spot anything else smiley - smiley

I liked the word 'slung'. A nice visual.
