A Conversation for Drinking Games

Vorletzter bezahlt (Stiefelsaufen)

A german drinking game with a little strategic touch:
Any good pub in Germany will have at least one large vessel made of glass and shaped like an ordinary boot with a high shaft (a 'Stiefel'). Capacity of the Stiefel may vary from 0.5l to 2.0l. The Stiefel is to be filled with beer, and passed round the table of participients. Everyone drinks the amount of beer of his choice. But the knack is: he who *precedes* the one who empties the vessel (ie, 'der vorletzte') is the one to pay ('bezahlen') for the next refill.
Variation of the rule: the Stiefel is to be held with its tip pointing up. So, according to Newton's laws of gravity, sooner or later the content of the Stiefel's tip will be replaced by air, and the poor drinker will have beer poured all over him. He is going to pay half of the next refill, with the rest of the bill determined by the rule mentioned above.

Could´ve guessed it. And actually, I did, did´nt I? Nowhere else would one expect this sort of behaviour (no offence). It reminds me of what German tourists do on Mallorca, this silly thing with the gigantic bucket full of Sangria and lots of long straws in it. They´re ruining Germany´s reputation abroad...if there is anything to be ruined after all. smiley - smiley

You may also see it this way: it confirms the image that germans do what they do very thoroughly, it fosters their sense of competition, and proves that they /can/ make fools out of themselves -- how's that? smiley - winkeye
