Entry: Fashion Victims - Flea Market Rescue (a work in progress) - A4045583
Author: An Inconsequential Hoopy Frood - U168592

Hi all. Have rescued this one from the Flea Market (or rather saw it floating about and plucked it out with a big long stick). The original Entry is here A2974052 , along with the original Peer Review thread F1881116?thread=479064

I've updated a little and added some subheader ideas, a bit of help with elaborating on the subjects would be grand. All contributors will be referenced of course! smiley - smiley

I'm just going to bookmark until someonemakes a point I can give some contructive comments on, as usual.

Fashion trends that went really really wrong:

legwarmers
big hair
intentionally ripped and torn clothing

ahh, the 80s, what would fashion be without that wonderful decade? Tasteful? Maybe...

Those HUGE wigs people wore in the....1700s?? You know the ones I mean, those that you could discover birds nesting in.

Drainpipe jeans which meant you walked rather...odd?

Shellsuits?

Bobby socks? Maybe I'm fishing now, I'm trying to think of some of those older fashion oddnesses

smiley - cheers all, I'll add those bits in the 80s section, dammit, why is there SO much in there. Is it because we all remember it, or is it really because there really was so much fashion, well, YUK about in the 80s?

I've added a bit more to the Entry and tweaked some more. Ideas welcome. smiley - smiley

Good one to rescue although it does seem to be trying a bit hard. Anyway, bookmarking cos I know you'll want me around for some nitpicking in due course smiley - winkeye - spotted a few on first read & will be back to share them but it's 3am at the time of writing and I can hardly focus on the screen right now.

"The mouth and throat would become affected and gradually destroy the woman's lungs. Sometimes this made the wearer more attractive, but not all that often."

You mean corroded lungs can make you more attractive?! I think a little re-wording is needed in this section... smiley - tongueout

A few points:

In the Loincloth subsection, 'homo sapiens' should be Homo sapiens (note the capital H)

In the Bustles subsection, you write "It had it's origins in hoop skirts"; the >it's< should be >its<, no apostrophe.

In the Being Thin subsection, you imply that anorexia is a relatively recent phenomenon. Actually, it dates back to Ancient Roman times. As a man, I can say that the reason we like thin women is that it makes them seem healthier, which is probably a good thing for babies. However, I for one best like those who exercise for thinness, and am disgusted by anorexia and annoyed by diets.

Fatter (but not too fat), big-hipped women are actually better for having babies...

It seems to me that the sections like 'Chavs' and 'Golf couteur' need to have some more stuff under them. I know it's kind of amusing to describe the fashion trends with one word, but maybe you could expand to explain what Burberry is, what it looks like, etc. It actually took me *research* to discover this very fact the first time it was mentioned to me, and so I feel that such things require some larger explanation.
