A Conversation for THE APOLLO MISSIONS

Those first words.

I was always puzzed, as the words:

"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind"

don't actyally make a lot of sense. Then I realised. What he should have said was

"That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind".

If you listen to the recording, you can actually hear him pause after getting the first part wrong, and pushing on bravely anyway.

According to NASA he actualy did say "one small step for a man". They blame a radio glitch.

I hope they are right. Otherwise this is perhaps the greatest blown line in the history of mankind so far.

(I've blown a number of lines in my time, so I know how bad this can feel.) smiley - smiley
