Hi, I'm another school governor!
I think you've achieved a good overview of the process.
Hope I'm not showing gross ignorance, but I didn't think you could get a statement for a gifted child?
I appreciate that you're assuming parents have already made their selection, but the last bullet point in approaching the school implies no earlier visit has been made. Perhaps you might want to clarify this.

It is a popular misconception that statements of Special Education Needs (SEN's) are only available for pupils with learning difficulties. In fact highly gifted children can also qualify to ensure that the resources are put in place (or at least have a better chance of being put in palce) to that the child can maximize his or her potential and realise their gifts.
On your other point, I'll look through the article re the school visit with a view to tweaking the wording so that it is clearer.
Vary many thanks for your feedback.

I'm certainly aware that gifted children can be classified as SEN, but not that they could be 'statemented'. I know that the process has changed, I'll grill our school's co-ordinator!

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

I've been allocated this entry to subedit, which I'm doing at A2309799. Feel free to pop in and have a look at what I'm doing, and speak up if you don't agree with something I've done.

I'm not sure if any further comments were wanted from me, I am delighted that it has been picked for the guide. The comments received during the course of the conversation threads have been really useful as well.
Sorry for not replying earlier, I have been away for the last few days.
Congratulations - Your Entry has been Picked for the Edited Guide!

Have you read it through now I've edited it? The comments I'm after are whether you can see anything else that needs doing, or whether I've done anything you're not happy with, so it can all be sorted before I sent it back.
Congratulations - Your Entry has been Picked for the Edited Guide!

I'm really happy with the article as adited by you. There are no further points that need to be added in my view although I hope that others working in education will also write articles to assist parents in interacting with the 'system' - not just admissions but the whole parent-school interaction. I may write more myself if you think appropriate.
Very many thanks for reviewing the article and getting it 'ship shape'
Congratulations - Your Entry has been Picked for the Edited Guide!

Well, back it goes then! Don't hold your breath for it appearing on the front page though - it will get there eventually but there's a huge queue of entries waiting to get on the front page at the moment!
