"As well as those parts that are part of the UK there are parts of the world that are in some way 'British' British Overseas Territories (formally known as British Dependent Territories) and Crown Dependencies"

perhaps

or perhaps ...

"In addition to the UK there are parts of the world that are in some way considered British. These are British Overseas Territories (formally known as British Dependent Territories) and Crown Dependencies."

seems to read better to me ... opinions?

I think HD's suggestion is good smiley - smiley in post 124. My only quibble (and I realise it was my suggestion originally to change it smiley - footinmouth) is that 'formally' (meaning in a formal sense) should probably be 'formerly' (in the sense of previously).

Northern Ireland

As both Welsh Assembly & Scottish Parliament have been mentioned should not Home rule in N.I. be mentioned in the article? (I know this is complicated but ...)

Additionally should not there be a mention of the fact that both Scotland & NI have kept their own legal systems (in terms of both in courts & law)?

... and see F1657896?thread=337484

added

"Northern Ireland has been given a devolved Assembly with law making powers, which has been meeting on and off since its creation in 1998, with power being taken back by Westminster whilst further agreements are made between the local parties"

As much as I am prepared to say on it - the linked entry should be the place for those discussions.

and to Scotland

"The 'United Kingdom of Great Britain' was formed in 1707 by the Act of Union that created a single Kingdom with a single (The Westminster) Parliament. However Scotland has always retained its own legal system"

Do we use non- gender pro-nouns for countries?

something needs to be added about Scotland as it stands now ,Scottish law which is not the same as the rest of the UK, Scottish schools which dont follow the UK way, and Scottish money, I will think of some more ...

"However Scotland has always retained its own legal system" was added this morning and really is all that needs to be said - anything else I believe should be part of a Scotland entry (which there isn't at the moment)

This name was changed when the Republic of Ireland and Northern Island were formed ... Northern Ireland surely? smiley - winkeye

Suggest:
Use of subheaders in British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies to identify the sections relating to the two different cases.

Addition of Anglesey to list of British Isles

Addition of footnote regarding Interpretation Act 1978 to the effect that "The UK government has passed more than one Interpretation Act (the first was in 1899). In each of these Acts many disparate terms are defined (or redefined) that are referred to in other Acts of Parliament. These vary from what a definition of month is, to what a London Borough is."
maybe a reference to http://www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/taxes_act_2002/ota/otapt2/ia78sch.htm

These points aside, do you think this entry is about as good as it is going to get?

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

smiley - applause Well done CH - you had to put up with a fair bit of barracking to get here though.

Thanks also for the co-credit smiley - biggrin - not sure if it is warranted for the suggestions I've offered (if you'd put in a lot more about the Isle of Man from the discussion thread I'd accept it smiley - winkeye)

Just trying to get it to the point I'd be happy to recommend it.
