What I suggested was drinking a large mug of rum and tea (piping hot). And keep doing this until you either pass out or feel better. All you need to get rid of a cold is sleep (FACT) and passing out in a drunken stupor is a great way to get to sleep when you don't feel like sleeping (FACT).

I wonder how often the phrase "drunken stupor" appears in h2g2, something for further research!

If you're hung over at work, they'll just think you're slow and lethargic all the time and won't suspect a drinking problem when you keep showing up for work hung over. If you don't need this fallback position because you drink in moderation like a real grown-up, then you'll start to appear bright and bushy-tailed in a few days and they'll think you're a real go-getter. Either way, you don't lose!!
