So maybe all that clicking was from Good Saint Nick's joints?

<<...my left ankle often has to be rotated & clicked for me to feel comfortable, whereas no problems with the right one.>>
Same here! Sometimes it takes me ages till it clicks... but as long as it hasn't clicked it feels weird and I have to rotate it until it's in the right position for the relieving click!

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side... Posted Oct 21, 2005
The last time (about two years ago), I confronted a professor in stuff to do with joints and bones about this, I got the same response I got as a ten or tweleve year old, from a friend, with a Phd~ in something clever to do with joints.
Bollocks.
its not cartledge.
its not synovial fluid.
its not bone against bone.
its eletro somthingaruther discharge from the synovial fluid wich if you crack neck, jaw,, shoulder, elbow, wrist, finger, knee, hip leg, wrist ankle, and toe joints as much as i do (with various period s of not being able to normallyh acrtivate said joints), then that seems as much rubbish as anything
I prefer to blame the glying spegetti monister

Annoying!!! is the word...
dragon princess is a vivid clicker, and deliberately "saves her clicks" for me when she wants attention...
The neck clicking I find most disturbing
Obviously there are no know disadvantages with reapeated clicking, so I canĀ“t use any medical arguments to make her stop this annoying habit...

Neck-clicking is the only thing that relieves my stiff neck (arthritis has spread) it isn't a "relief" - it hurts!
My older son has been able to entertain (if that's the word) the family since he was a toddler - he can click every joint in his body. He even clicks when he walks! He bends his toes under his foot and all the toes click, though it's more like a "crack" sound
If he moves suddenly, his joints click, and he pretends it hurts, then he says it doesn't.
My younger daughter (she's 25) is hyper-elasticated, and can't click to save her life.

my mind's not reassured by these answers. why does someone clicking their joints give me the same reaction as polystyrene on leather or nails on a blackboard?

I would say you are sensitive to the sound.
I can't stand to see someone tortured (like the current storyline in "Lost" - made me cringe) but joint-clicking doesn't bother me at all.
