I quote from the game instructions here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/hitchhikers/playing.shtml

"Save and Restore
You can type 'Save' at any point to save your current position in the game. To continue playing later type 'Restore'.

If you're registered with h2g2, and tick 'remember me' when you sign in, you'll see a list of all your saved games. Unregistered users will have to settle for choosing memorable saved game names that other people won't guess!"

NB Also game hints are here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/hitchhikers/gamehints.shtml

and the other game players are here:

kea ~ Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small, unregarded but very well read blue and white website

Bribery with chocolate usually works Dreamer smiley - ok (well with some people anyway smiley - winkeye)

You can also get some instructions on saving, and support , from this h2g2 page A3072746smiley - smiley

Be aware that any games you save can't be deleted, so don't go on a frenzy or it'll be a total pain when you want to start from a saved game and have a huge list to trawl through (speaking from experience smiley - blush).

I still don't get it. I AM registered with h2g2. When I signed in I did tick the "remember me" button. I still don't see any of my saved games listed anywhere (I saved them prior to knowing that I'd need to tick that "rememberme" button. Could that be the problem?

Also ... I can't get from these pages (this one, for example) back to the game without closing out the entire site and logging on once again. That can't be the intended process, can it?

I'm also told that if I upon the "hints" pages in a 2nd window, then I'll be able to use them without (as I said above) having to close out and log in again. BUT I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO OPEN A 2ND WINDOW. I'M USING WINDOWS XP, SO IT SHOULD BE POSSIBLE, NO?

As usual, would appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks,

-- Ben

> I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO OPEN A 2ND WINDOW

Instead of clicking on a link using the left mouse button, click on it using the right mouse button. That should bring up a little menu, on which one of the options is to open the link in a new window (rather than the default of using the current window).

Thanks, Sef
That answers the questions about opening a new window. It worked. Now ... how about this one: I DID register w/ h2g2 and I DID select the remember me button. But it seems to have no effect at all on my saved games. I see no list when I type "restore." Any suggestions here?
Thanks,

That one I haven't tried myself (not really the game-playing type).

However, are you confident you only have the one h2g2 account in which you saved the games? I think games you saved prior to having an account may well be lost other than by remembering their secret names.

The next thing to check is whether your computer is allowing "cookies" to be saved on it - because those are the things which allow you to stay logged in and the BBC software to recognise that it's the same account/computer. I can't tell you where on XP to look other than in your network settings, browser settings and any protection software (such as ZoneAlarm) you might have running.
