A Conversation for How do I...?

How do I create a website?

I haven't found an answer to my question here on hootoo - if it was already asked, please excuse me doing so again.

I am looking for a cheap or free program to create a website. One that even beginners can handle (I don't know html or anything the like).

Every hint is welcome - and thank you in advance

Have a nice day

Tina

Try NVU, it is a complete (WYSIWYG) Web Authoring System for Microsoft Windows, Mac's and Linux.

I second that. I did this with it: http://www.mugfungus.com/ though I really should do a bit more!

I am no expert. My experience was fairly simple. I loaded a free program that was supplied on a CD on a computer magazine and adapted the basic template to say what I wanted. The program allowed me to preview what the site would look like when it was published online. The fun and games started when trying to publish the content to the website. Depending on your operating system you may find it easier than I did. Since getting to grips with it I have found it quite easy to update the website.

If you haven't already bought (or more realistically 'rented') your domain name it is worth choosing a web hosting service that will provide a domain name as part of the package. The hosting service should provide comprehensive understandable instructions to enable you to upload your website content to them to diplay your published website.

If you are only creating a simple website you shouldn't need to pay anyone to design it.

I used A4Desk and the website I made is at thegoodloaf dot co dot uk I will be replacing it soon as it is too inflexible now I want to make it bigger. On the free version I got I can't add more pages, or adjust how many pictures to put on each page.
