Hello!
1. It is indeed entirely normal: someone will have seen the request and will respond to it in due time.
2. The Miners' Page is the place for it, rather than here.
3. I see from your PS that you were ACEd four days ago - welcome to h2g2 
Wanting to be a volunteer in that space of time shows great enthusiasm 
... but it might be a good idea to take your time and get a bit more of a feel for the place before rushing into anything.

It seems the Underguide does only take new miners if they need more hands. With the fairly recent comment they have enough miners it could take some time before it is your turn.
