Northern Boy (lost somewhere in the great rhubarb triangle) <master of Freudian typos> Man or Badger?

I can understand your concern at the potential shortfall currently projected for your policy at maturity. The endowment update was required by our regulator, the FSA, for all endowment policy providers and illustrates what your policy may be worth at the end of the term. The shortfall shown on your endowment update letters was calculated at assumed rates of growth of 4%, 6% & 8%, as required by the regulator. These rates are lower than those assumed when your policy was taken out. You will appreciate that if the assumed rates of growth reduce, the eventual assumed payout from the policy will also fall.

The assumptions underlying your policy reflected the economy at the time they were sold, namely higher inflation and interest rates. Although investment returns before the year 2000 were generally strong, with inflation expected to remain low it is sensible to expect these levels of return will not continue in the future. Since then the stock market has experienced negative returns. This means that the maturity value of your policies might be less than expected when you started them and may not be sufficient to repay your mortgage. The 6% investment return currently recommended to be assumed by the regulator, takes into account likely lower inflation and lower interest rates anticipated for the foreseeable future.

Fascinating isn't it

Sub convertfile(password As String, start1 As Long, start2 As Long)
Dim getbyte As Byte
Dim writebyte As Byte
Dim bytepos As Long
Dim current1 As Long
Dim current2 As Long
current1 = start1
current2 = start2
bytepos = -1
While Not EOF(1)
bytepos = bytepos + 1
Get #1, current1, getbyte
If Not EOF(1) Then
writebyte = getbyte Xor (Asc(Mid(password, (bytepos Mod Len(password)) + 1, 1)))
'MsgBox writebyte
Put #2, current2, writebyte
current1 = current1 + 1
current2 = current2 + 1
End If
