Reasons To Be Cheerful Part 42.576

OK Madmunk, time to reveal more of your secrets please. HTML tags. How do you insert them into this white text box. If I type blah-blahit just comes out as blah-blah, rather than in bold type.
How's it done?
By the way, I thought that thing was a lemon.

Ok, there's a frightening simple answer to this, and it's that HTML tags really don't work in forums. BTW on user pages, the tag for bold is blah
The reason for the tags not working is that the-powers-that-be don't want forums to take any longer to load than they already do, and there's bound to be someone out there who sticks a wopping great A4 size picture in a journal entry..... And that person would probably end up being me, for some unkonw reason...

So, if HTML tags don't work, how did you get all those gifs on your homepage?

Ahh, tags work fine on User pages, just not on forum/journal entries. And anyway, H2G2 doesn't use HTML, it uses XML, which is very picky, ie, you have to close ALL tags, especially ones that are not normally needed to be closed, like tags.
There are Beginner sites about, that's how I learned, i'll see if i can dig a few up for you.

Don't worry, XML is almost exactly the same as HTML (as far as I know) ALMOST And yes, from here on in, it only gets more confusing.
