Hi!
I don't know if anyone will read this, but I've noticed that there's been a rather large influx of users from this "ld" place lately, which is all a good thing, and I hope you're enjoying the that is h2g2.
But I've yet to find a decription of leisure district itself - and I wondered if some of you might want to <./>Contribute</.> a description of it to the Edited Guide, and to posterity. Well, it's just a thought really, but I for one would be interested in a nice comparison between ld and h2g2: technologically, socially, and so forth...

Hi [IMSOP]
Interesting idea, it might also help other hootooers understand ex-LDers a bit more too. I'm sure someone in our masses could come up with something for the guide. It might be in CAPITALS though

it might also help getting rid of the idea that LD was _only_ a chat site [even some ex-LDers are describing it that way...]...
we also had a library were some of us were quoting on various subjects...

Loup but it WAS a chat site! n not a very good one at that..why you think so many of us jumped ship so long before it closed? the bit of the library you posted in may have been ok, but most of the place was pretty dire n there was next to no chance of decen conversation 90% of the time between it not working properly and quite a lot of the people on there seeming not be capable of one! did make a few good friends though (as well as meeting the b/f from hell!) so it wasnt all bad..just mostly.

let's rephrase that then...: it was a chat site with other facilities on it.. some used these facilities like the library and posted quotes on various subjects as well as poems and recipes... the facilities available will be listed in the entry...
and nope it was not always rosey either in the library...
talk soon...

loup - I'll send this by e-mail as well, since you asked, but I see no reason not to discuss it right here:
Well, off the top of my head, I guess the points it would be nice to cover would be:
- technical stuff (e.g. what the facilities were, who ran the site, what they had in mind in terms of what it was 'for')
- personal stuff (e.g. who actually used it, why they came across it)
- the 'community' side of things (e.g. what the facilities actually got used for, what kind of things got talked about, and so forth)
- what happened to it (the more recent history/evolution of the site, why and how a large number of users came in particular to h2g2)
- some comparison with h2g2 (this could be as part of the above and/or as a seperate section of general observations)
But I think probably the best aprroach is to start writing what you know/can think of to say, and put it up for other people to make suggestions about. Let me know how you get on!

[LMSoP]... hi...
yep.. i should have explained that sometimes we have difficulty accessing h2g2 and, like a few days ago for me, our own space...
also it can be quite busy at times in this corner of h2g2...
anyway, thanks for the email... it's certainly a good idea to tackle the entry the way you suggested... i will start a draft tomorrow and flesh it out during the next two weeks...
i'm sure other ex-Lders will help fill any gaps that will exist...
talk soon...

I have been told a lot of people on LD used it as a dating service, looking for new friends, lol.

hi.
leisure district to me was......
my lifeline.
because of real life problems, i dont have much contact with the outside world.
ld was a community. i know there were the nutters in there, but there were also a lot of very good people.
i made and lost many friends over the 3 years that i was online. i helped solve other peoples problems and i had other people listen to me when i needed an ear.
when i first discovered LD, i thought that i could use it as a dating service, but it wasnt to be.
ive met a few of the people i chatted to. it was good to see who it is that you are chatting to.
ive certainly learnt a lot about myself and what ive missed out on in my life and im glad to have had the opportunity of usuing LD.
i used the library, some of the games(yartsee, slots, hangman) i even had a cyber pet for a while.
i spent some of my time in cooking, family, foyer rooms and the odd fleeting visit to the others. but i spent most of my time in private messaging.
which is something that i miss on h2. its nice to have a chat with someone that nobody else, can interrupt.
i know that there were loads of technical problems, but LD was not just a chat room. it was a community, a way of life, a problem sorter. a place to escape to, from the trials of reality.
as for yoome2, well i dont even thnk its worth a mention.

thanks helen ,i couldnt have put it better myself ,i was an ld user and altho i didnt use ld as a dating service i met alot of ppl from ld and even my now b/friend on there who i am living with and expecting his child ,we couldnt be happier ,ive alot to thank ld for ,when i had noone to turn to i had ld and my friends there ,when i hit the lowest point in my life more problems that i could handle there was always someone i could tlk to either via the tv or the phone .so those who slate the place for its ongoing problems look at the bigger picture and see what ld actually meant to some ppl xxxxxxx
