A strange request for advice from friends list...

Hi everybody (hi doctor nick),
strange request this one. I'm not normally one to put my private life on hootoo, but this is really doing my nut in, and I don't think theres anyone in RL who would be able to answer this properly...
Basically this is the scenario : About 5/6 years ago there was this girl I'd known since school, who I'd had my eye on for ages. I asked her out a couple of times, but unknownst to me the two times (seperated by a few years by the way) she was already going out with someone. Towards the end of college I became really good friends with her, but never went any further - though I thought I may have missed a chance near the end there.
Anyway, time moved on, I met new people and moved on... and I'd all but forgotten her to be honest. Then the other day I found her phone number that I had of hers for some reason. I don't even really remember how I got it. But anyway I thought I'd found a really good excuse to ring her (as part of a project I'm doing - don't want to go in to too much detail but if you knew it you'd probably say "yeah, thats a fair reason for ringing"). But its been five sodding years.
I mean I was talking a few days ago in another journal about me changing, how much could she have changed? Could she have got married, and moved on? - probably very likely... maybe no one lives there anymore... Would she be scared of the fact I'd gone to the effort of ringing her. Christ I wish it was an e-mail I'd found - I'm so much better at those.
Anyway basically what do you think? Am I just worring over nothing? Or is the old saying never go back the order of the day.
Cheers

Have you tried looking her up onb friends disunited or other such websites? They are a general invitation for people to get back in touch. Then you could mention the project to her. For all you know the number could be obsolete by now. Worth a try anyway

Hi Mort, thanks for responding I'm afraid I tried Friends Reunited and couldn't find her. I think when I work up the courage I'll probably try the number just for the hell of it...

Terran, if you don't ring her, you'll still be wondering what would have happened when you're old and gray. Have a scotch, pull yourself together, and pick up the phone.

I think there is at least one other major mainstraim friends reunited type website but I can't remember the name of it.
You could try the phone number and it may be her parents etc, but if it was student digs she might have moved on.
It is always worth a try. Nothing wrong with catching up on old friends. You can just tell the truth and say that you came across the number and thought you would take a chance on her still being at the other end of it, so decided to say hello.
Or that you are working on a project and as fate would have it you came across her number and wondered if she fancied lending a helping hand.
What is the worst that can happen? She will make small talk and enjoy catching up with you and hearing the gossip on mutual friends that you might have, and she will update you on her life. If that involves a significant other then she will tell you.
You just need to be prepared for that and say how pleased you are etc.
But it is worth contacting her even ust to say hello.
