Hi,
I'm in the process of updating the Language Thing - A1145477 - and part of the update will involve cutting the member list. I'm messaging all people on the list, so send me a reply if you'd like to stay on. If I don't hear from you within a month, I'll assume you don't want to be relisted.
Thanks
Joe C (Editor, h2g2 Language Thing)

Yep, relist me... Once I have taken the courage to tell my manager that I need to cut down my four nights work to three nights only, I will have a bit more time to concentrate on important things [h2g2 being one of them obviously ]...
Then, there should be some material regarding the French language being produced from the HelpDesk... Hopefully that will help those who practise their French on the French thread...
Kind of foggy right now as I haven't had any sleep yet, but something is definitely on the cards...
[Of course, if I avoided certain controversial threads, I would have more time... But that's easier said than done somehow...]
I will try to drop in time to time...
Talk soon...

Oh...
I've just saw the French Department's page... and I'm not too happy with this new duplication of what we're doing with the French HelpDesk by the way... Surely checking with a group already offering that service would have been the right thing to do...

While I'm waiting for a reply, I would like to point out that when the idea of the Language Thing was advertised on <./>AskH2G2</.>, I did at the time mention that the French helpDesk was alredy dealing with French Language... It was obviously ignored and the LT started their French thread... Not wanting to create trouble, we changed the aims for the HelpDesk a bit and we concentrated on the "Help" aspect... Now, it seems that you're going with the help aspect as well... That doesn't really give our group a chance does it?!...

Any thought at all on how to solve this situation in an amicable fashion or should I raise the matter with the Italics instead?!...

I haven't read properly most of the threads from when the Language Thing was created; I was aware there were other groups, such as the HelpDesk, but wasn't sure exactly what they did (mainly because I was concentrating my efforts on the LanguageThing).
The French Department page has only just been finished, and it is very much a prototype; this is part of a scheme for the whole of the Language Thing. I wasn't aware that the French HelpDesk was already providing this.
Leave it with me for a few days, I'll try and think of how I can tweak it so we have different objectives. If I can't, then I'll continue with this format for all other languages but redirect people who want to learn French to you
Sorry about this,
Joe C

Having had a brief glance at your page, am I right in thinking you offer help for people who need to know how to say specific things in French?
I was aiming more for helping people to learn basic grammatical structure, as well as vocab if necessary. Would it be a solution for me to stress that on the French Department page? While other departments are for teaching language and grammar, the French Department shares responsibilty for this with the HelpDesk (+ insert link)?

Hmmmm... We're going somewhere now...
>am I right in thinking you offer help for people who need to know how to say specific things in French?<
Not _just_ that, we offer also help with translation etc...
I do like your suggestion though...
Talk soon... On my way to give the good news to the Group's helpers...

Sorry I wasn't replying earlier, I was busy working on the prototype Department page, plus checking if other members were still around.
If I use that template for other departments, and mention the HelpDesk at the top of the French Dept (with an explanation that you focus on vocab and translation while we look at grammar and structures), can I go ahead with the new format?

Yep, that's a workable solution...
[Helping with translation and vocabulary is more fun than helping with grammar and structures anyway...]
So, do go ahead with the new format...
Talk soon...
