I'm upse that I can never post in a non-english language if a moderator cannot understand it. I think a good joke to play on them would be to write something harmless in atrocious English and moderate yourself.

true...

but what about the other side: take your favourite website in your country (UK or other, doesn't matter) and see a couple of people from China / Greenland / XYZ-istan demand the right to post in their local idiom, with you paying the bill for moderation.

Which of course doesn't take into account why there's payed moderation in the first place.

Wouldn't it encourage people to learn more languages so as to understand them?

Think it all boils down to the British monoglot (sp?) system and the fact that everybody else on the planet speaks their language, at least to some extend. As Ben pointed out in the Announcements thread F615?thread=191616&latest=1#p2152313 yesterday:

"It is understandably hard for any northern european to credit that an organisation like the BBC does not - and indeed can not - make the requirement to speak one or more foreign language a requirement for employment."

In Germany you wouldn't get any job (apart from sorting items into supermarket shelves) without at least basic capabilities in another language. Er.. sometimes not even that because you might need Turkish or Greek to make yourself clear.

In public schools in the US, a second language, usually Spanish, is mandatory.

I've read the above. I helped to write it, love.
If only there was a magic word that would make a post or entry un-moderatable.
