I agree - and the catering would be sorted out, too. Popcorn and ice cream. (Not both at once, you understand.)

Congratulations
I've been waiting for this because I expected it (hence asking whether you could wear the thing from your grandmother.)
Congratulations
I shall raise an for you.

Thanks, all!! Sorry for not replying again sooner (and many bonus points to van-smeiter who did in fact figure this out ages ago ).
Glad to hear some people approve of the theater idea- we could sort music and vittles would be a given. Just need some ideas for films.
I still suppose we'd need a brunch for parents, grandparents, my uncle, etc, the next day, so the old folks weren't too put out by the "non-traditional" stuff.
I'll have to think of good favors (I like the idea of indigenous wild flower seeds, small toys, fortune cookies, or maybe some homemade cookies or something) and would love suggestions, as well as other ideas. I'm thinking autumn or winter. Next October 30 is a Saturday but the theater might be booked for Halloween stuff...

It must be all the Agatha Christie I read- I sat back in my chair, looked at the evidence and used the little grey cells, Hastings.
The movie theatre sounds ace and, if you're going for that date, why not show the movie Halloween!

Ellen Posted Aug 6, 2009
Oh no, that's a terrible idea, showing Halloween! *shudder* Must be something romantic.
ooh, looky!
van-smeiter Posted Aug 6, 2009
Halloween not romantic? It's the old story of a rebuffed man who won't take no for an answer and goes to extraordinary lengths to get the women he desires!

Why not a cinema?
My sister's wedding was in a puppet theatre, after all (Just not the actual marriage ceremony, because you have to do that at the registry office.)
You could have a red carpet and everything. And let people dress up as their favourite film characters, though maybe that's taking it too far.

No romance films or chick flicks. Yuck!
But perhaps not any slasher films. In case a grandparent or something decides to turn up.
Perhaps one of our mutual favorites or something... but keep the suggestion coming. And I haven't ruled out, if the timing were right, the possibility of people showing up in costumes. I certainly wouldn't ask anyone to wear any dress-up clothes, leastwise anything "formal". It's supposed to be fun, not a pain in the ass.

Oh, and I don't think we would need to do anything at the courthouse, because our friend is legally a "registrar" (not sure what they're called here, I don't think he's a justice of the peace). My first (mistake) was done at the courthouse by a judge, not in a courtroom but either in an office-type room.

Will the film(s) be playing in the background or will you be sitting down to watch them/it? If it's on in the background, why not go for some pre-talkie comedy like Keaton, Chaplin or early Stan and Ollie? I'm sure it would please the s and there's no dialogue so it'd be easy to follow for those who wanted to.

I think that's a great idea!! Those old silent comedies are so good! I especially like Keaton.
