Look what K got me. It belonged to my grandmother. It's half of a pair, the second of which I'll get eventually, maybe next autumn.

Please those of you who also keep in touch via Facebook- don't mention anything there yet. We have family members on there who need to be told properly rather than have them stumble across random comments.

It doesn't quite fit perfectly. I'm going to try one of those sizing inserts first and if that seems dodgy, I guess we'll take it to a jeweler which does sizing in-house.
Of course I'll let everyone know once some sort of plan has been made 100% official. K's been kind of vague but I don't imagine he'd have gone to the trouble of getting it for nothing. What a cruel joke that would be.

DancingTree and I got engaged after about 6 months together with a very vague future plan. We knew we wanted to be together but weren't going to get married right away, even if that's where we were headed. And we kept it mostly to ourselves for another 6 months. We didn't want people to think we were rushing (a ridiculous amount) when we knew we were doing the right thing for us.
People were very understanding about the ring minus the plan, certainly at the beginning. But we had an ace up our sleeve as we had to negotiate which country to do it in. In the end we got married after 4 years together and are coming up to our 4 year anniversary next month.
Planning weddings isn't fun though...you know where we are for moaning, groaning and commiserations when it gets to that stage...
Now back to the merriment!

I don't anticipate anything extravagant. What with looking to buy a house/condo/townhouse, I think I'd rather invest in a home than blow a huge wad of cash on a shindig that lasts a few hours. I wouldn't be averse to just renting out the movie theater again- K has a friend who's licensed to perform the necessary duties- at our expense, perhaps hitting one of our friends' bars afterward (though whether or not we could afford that is another issue), then maybe doing a nice brunch with certain family members (I'm thinking the ones who'll be annoyed at anything less than "conventional") the following day.
Since it's not my first I have no particular need or desire for anything lavish, and don't expect K minds low-key, either.
Honestly, at this point it's more a matter of getting onto a single medical insurance plan and practical stuff like that.

I don't know why I'd presume this, but I thought this would be your first. Goes to show you can't judge that sort of thing from people's typing!
I would never have expected you to do an overblown one anyway, it would much more likely be something inordinately and and all at the same time - wearing something ubercool and unique, with food tailored to your requirements!
Then again, I'm all for any excuse for a decent shindig.
(Just to show my sad, side for a sec, one of my favourite TV conversations is in 'Buffy' where Oz lists the differences between a gathering, a shindig, a hootenanny and so on.)
Moving swiftly on
