My grandma died this morning.

She was 96 years old and had lived a very full life, and she was always very good to me (especially when I needed it most). I'll miss her.

I'm doing OK right now- in a weird way I've been waiting for this phone call, in the back of my mind, for a long time- but I'm still feeling funny.

So if I'm kind of unusually quiet, that's why, and if I'm less quiet than usual, that's probably just me not wanting to think about it for a bit.

Hi PC, I think your feelings now are the usual state, you have started to elaborate the mourning (sorry, not sure about the right expression in English).

Time to remember again, but with more intensity, the sweetest moments about her. Time to cry and feel comforted with the idea that you both loved each other. No everybody can say the same. Grandparents have a very important role in loving, caring relationships with their grandchildren.

My mother was really unhinged and abusive when I was a child, and my grandmother did all she could to look after me and do little things to make me feel loved and special. smiley - magic

I am very sorry for your loss - I very much understand where you're at right now.
Take care of yourself and don't be afraid to cry properly, something I've not managed yet.

My grandmother was much loved by us children (and her daughters). She was the bestest grandmother on earth (well, for us, she was). When she died (at the age of 86) we were all grieving very much. I feel with you, PC.

My dad will be coming up next weekend as planned previously- my uncle has the arrangements made and said it would be easier this way. She'd wanted to be cremated and didn't want any viewing to last more than an hour- most of her siblings and friends are already dead, so there aren't many of us left and she probably wouldn't have wanted us to stand around weeping and wailing for too long.

I'd planned a few days off while my dad is here anyway, and I'm sure my boss will be sympathetic, so I'm sure I'll be given the time and space I need.

What makes me the saddest right now is that we'd had plans for a visit late in March, then in early April, but Gram and my uncle both had the flu, and we were waiting for her to be well. She'd been wheezy so my uncle took her to the hospital, per usual, so she could get oxygen and antibiotics to make her better. She was perky and chirpy yesterday, and the doctor told my uncle when he left her last evening that she was well enough to go home today.

It's OK, it's not so dismissive when you're the one being offered the virtual flower and the kind thoughts behind it. smiley - smiley

Heard a bit more from my uncle. The memorial service won't happen before next Saturday. My dad's arriving Friday sometime.
