What I Did At The Meet-Up

Friday
7:30pm Had an unusual, but not necessarily bad, curry at Blues Shark's local Indian restaurant.
8:00 Proceeded rapidly to Shark's pub of choice, where we talked our way briefly through the history of music.
Saturday
11:00am Finally dispelled curry aftertaste with large plate of fried pig products.
12:00pm Demon Drawer does a very good David Beckham impression. If you get the chance, ask him to do it.
12:30 Failed to contact Doctor MO at designated rendezvous.
2:00 Received large sloppy kiss from Galaxy Babe (who else?). Against all prior warnings, bought Dr E Vibenstein a pint of lager.
3:00 Found out that Mina's grasp of Central London geography is on a par with that of a Mongolian herdsman.
3:30 Made fool of myself playing non-stop cricket.
3:45 Made disparaging remarks about Uncle Heavy's haircut in loud voice.
4:00 Made fool of myself playing softball, but used the opportunity to wind up Ashley as much as possible.
4:30 Watched Archangel Justin's unerring ability to hit people on the back of the head with a frisbee.
4:45 Stole frisbee from BBC Sport.
5:00 An incorrigible sign on the wall of Covent Garden tube station says 'Whisky is Here!' Everyone starts to feel nervous.
5:30 Upon finding out that the pub quiz is to be about the Edited Guide, try to form team containing Gnomon, Demon Drawer and Jimi X's phone number. Fail miserably.
6:00 Banter, meet lots of people and get photographed with a banana in my ear.
7:00 Find out that Uncle Heavy is scared of snails, possibly as they are the only thing more lethargic than the average Oxford student. Promise, on my word, not to tell anyone.
8:00 Take advantage of pub quiz in order to wind up Abi.
8:30 Xanatic wanders in looking a bit lost. Reassure him that he is in fact in the correct pub.
9:00 Inevitable football chat with GreyDesk. We discuss the limitations of Sheffield United, which doesn't take as long as you might think.
9:30 Long rambling chat with 2legs about nothing in particular. Refuse to get drawn into tequila drinking.
10:15 Took advantage of Odo's absence to ogle some of the prettier female researchers (*waves to queeglesproggit* )
10:30 Odo - if KerrAvon and/or Bruce send you any photos, you might do better not to look at them.
10:45 Receive some gross, and - I'm sure - underserved, flattery from Gnomon. I suspect it may have been the Guinness talking, but thanks anyway, mate.
11:00 Put 2legs in a taxi as the night descends into a blur.
1:00 Fall asleep on Blues Shark's sofa, only to be regularly awakened by Doctor MO talking in his sleep.
Sunday
11:00am Dispelled mild hangover with large plate of toast and went home.
'Twas a good meet all round, and I don't think I did anything too shameful. Public thanks to Abi and Mina for organising it, and to Shark for 2 nights use of his sofa. I would try to mention all the interesting people I met, but it would last way too long.

It wasn't actually the Guinness talking, as I'm more of a Heineken man myself. I asked for Heineken, but they didn't have it so Kronenbourg was the next best thing. Unfortunately they had run out of that so I settled for Stella. But the Stella ran out later, so I don't know what I was drinking.
I might get a bit enthusiastic when I've been drinking, but I rarely say things that aren't true.
A good meet-up!

Andrea: In truth, I would gladly detail every interesting person I met, but after a while all the names and faces just enter a big blur.
Gnomon: Shall we just say that I'm happy to leave the vacancy of 'Cleverest Man on h2g2' (your words, *precis*) open.
GD: At least I was only having a dig at the Blades. It could've been at your beer-gut.

Gnomon - time to move on Posted Jun 30, 2003
For my first year on h2g2, Pheroneous used to follow me around telling me how clever I was.(Hi to Pheroneous if you're lurking!) I know how tedious it can be, so enough said.

The only embarrassing I remember was you haranguing me to pull Xan!
Anything else is blurry, so if there was something worse, do tell!

Gnomon - It's not so much tedious as disconcerting. I don't mind being called intelligent by half-wits, but when clever people do it it scares me.
Queegle - Well, I still think you should pull Xan. He's a smashing chap. I think, in that case, we may have narrowly avoided anything embarrassing. Best leave it at that, really...
Now, if only I could get those photos off of Bruce.

That's what I've picked up. Curiously, no one seemed to get up to write about the meet until today
I wonder why...

In fairness, Doctor MO and myself were logged on at about 9am on Sunday. Blues Shark's sofas aren't terribly comfortable for a night's sleep.
And given that I sensibly did not mix my drinks, I only had a very mild hangover, by my standards.

Open mouth, insert foot then run. Nothing new there then!
Morning B, glad you enjoyed yourself.
Now to find my spies.....

Odo has already worked that one out from various posts she has seen.
Whether you say any more depends on the length of ladder you may be handed afterwards....
