Well, I've just watched "Lost in Translation" and I can't honestly remember the last time I was so touched by a movie. How wonderful is this film?
For anyone who's ever been far from home and not wanted to be, for anyone who's ever made a temporary best friend.... Heck, just for everyone else who likes good movies, this is a must see.
If it doesn't win bucketloads of awards there is no justice.
*sigh*

I really liked it too. I loved that toward the end, when he holds her close and speaks into her ear, you can't really hear what he's telling her. Made you feel like you were eavesdropping.
Did you see her other film, "The Virgin Suicides"? Also excellent, but sad. I think she's just a stunning young writer-director. Dare I say better than Dad?
What could Spike Jonze (whom I also love: "Adaptation," "Being John Malkovich") be thinking, letting her go? (They were married but are divorcing, if you didn't know.)

I think a bit of business travel experience helps - it really captured the feeling of being somewhere really exciting but not being able to enjoy it at all. And the connection you get with anyone who has the least in common with you because everyone else is so different. I've been on whirlwind nights out with people I barely know, just like Bob and Charlotte - there was so much in that movie that just struck a personal chord....
I'm not a movie buff by any means, and I'm not sure I can name any of Dad's movies, but if we could get Jonze's wierdness and the depth of emotion from this film in a single movie it would be amazing Hopefully the terms of their divorce doesn't rule out future work collaborations!

Movie buff I may not be, but I do know my music.... The soundtrack for "The Virgin Suicides" was done by the French band 'Air'. Unless I'm very much mistaken, at least some of the music in this movie was also by Air - at least the bit where Charlotte is exploring the gardens is called 'Alone in Kyoto' and can be found on their latest CD.

Dad's films would start with "The Godfather."
I don't think Sofia and Spike ever worked together, but that would be interesting!
You've inspired me to post my fave films of 2003 on my page. I've been thinking about doing it but I'm going to get down to it right now.
Right now I'm trying to see Oscar contenders before the Oscars on May 29. Have two to go, "City of God" and "In America."
