How many times have you gotten yourself out of some rediclous situation but knowing something totally irrelevent? No information is completely useless.
By the way, how young are you considdering youngsters? I know twelve year olds who can quote Monty Python and know what they´re talking about.

No information can ever truely be considerded useless, you never know when its going to come up on who wants to be a millionaire. But I think that the migratory habits of the Dodo is not strictly useful information and given a choice between retaining that, or how to make the perfect cappucino, which one would you prefer to remember.
Personally I would go for migratory habits of an extinct bird, because using aforementioned knowledge I could impress people who would then go and get me afore-mentioned cappucino.
Youngsters, are anyone younger than me, which unfortunately is a group that is growing by the day.
I think I haven't answered your point, but that's irrelvant.
