h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I was having a discussion last night with an Ecuadorean diplomat and a Schoolteacher, about South America. The Schoolteacher is a Christian, but came up with the statement that the indigenous respective South American peoples (ie:- Incas, Mayans and Aztecs) where in direct communication with the Ancient Egyptians, which is why they built Pyramids, had gods that where animal-based, used heiroglyphs, and were ultimately descended from aliens!!!(Kurt von Daniken anyone?)
Has anyone else any knowledge of this, or is it a theory all his own. Unfortunately I only have one mate that has an interest in this, but he's into the Bible Code, alien spaceships, and little grren men, which is a little bit wacko even for me, a lapsed (stargate-watching) student scientist.
Would be interested in any reasonable replies.

I had known about Omi, as that 'tribe'(?) of Macaques are famous and have appeared with David Attenborough. They do the same with rice.
However, how did similar societies develop alike, seperated by thousands of miles of water. Also why are there varietions. For example, the Egyptians had invented the wheel, but the South Americans never did, or at least not for a long time later. Also why didn't other nations such as those on Easter Island, or the Polynesian Islands (the later of which sailed thousands of miles to discover Hawaii) develop the same society?

The south american peoples writings are in no way related to hieroglyphs. And the structures they built had only superficial similarities... However boat building techniques are astoundingly alike.
It isn't impossible that there was occaisional contact between the peoples of the new old world in ancient times but sustained trade or a shared 'mother' civilisation that has been forgotten there was not.

As South America was the only place that it came from at the time it suggests some sort of contact. And the pyramids are a dead give-away.

The Chinese were also supposed to be in communication with the SA lot,giving them chickens and the like, that's also how the Spanish aquired the maps in order to get there!!!
