I play the fiddle (violin) and have been watching the film 'Intermezzo' with Leslie Howard and Ingrid Bergman.
I have also been reading the book 'A Man called Intrepid" By William Stevenson, about the British Secret Service during WWII in which LH disappeared. 
coincidence.
My question is, were both LH and IB able to play their instruments, as they appear to do, unlike I believe, Stewart Grainger who played Paganini, who was a complete

Not my sphere of expertise I'm afraid - although I do know that Russel Crowe learned to play the violin to a very high standard for Master and Commander.
Have you tried Google-ing them?
