5.34 seems almost civilised

We've been having problems getting Mini to sleep all night. She goes into her crate OK in the utility room, but then wakes about 2 or 3 - goes outside for doggy business, and then finds it hard to settle back to sleep. We'd been ignoring any barks after that point, and using ear plugs to block the sound.
But then yesterday the neighbours complained about the noise. Feeling mortified (we'd assumed they couldn't hear her), we had to come up with a different plan. So we moved the crate into our bedroom. I'm not a big fan of dogs in bedrooms, but we were desperate.
She slept soundly till 5.34. This is the best nights sleep I've had in weeks!

Poor Bea, I had one of my dogs in bed with me when she was a pup. When she grew up it was relatively easy to train that out of her in stages over a week or two, so it's not a forever deal.

Its the thing to remember that dog are a pack animal and there for sleep is a pack thing

Yes, I'm hoping that when she's a bit older and able to sleep through the night, that she can move out of the bedroom. But for the next few weeks, it seems like the easiest way for us all to have a Silent Night.

Maybe it's the warmth, too? It is probably a few degrees warmer in your bedroom than in the utility room. 
may not NEED it warmer to be able to sleep, but it certainly helps.
I remember one of my boys sleeping so long as a baby that I got really worried. Till I went into his room and discovered I'd left the radiator on by mistake. He was just so warm and cosy, he slept till about 11 am.

anyways whats the thing about a "dogs in bedrooms" thing I have never understood it!

It's about keeping them in their place. Besides, I...ahem...use my bedroom for other activities....

been thinking about what you said about keeping them in there place, I have had dog's all my life and never thought about where their place is, seems strange not to allow them everywhere

Mine's been gone a couple of months now. I still miss his weight on my feet when I wake up in the morning.

well then theres only one thing to do, get another one i love dogs there just great, the best, i have a couple of grey hounds, (long dogs) massy and fergusion are there names and No 51 is the other

I can imagine how much you miss him.
I curse our 2 up and down - but they bring us so much joy and affection.

It can be handy though, Bea. I'd probably have been fired by now if it wasn't for my dog - he comes and bangs my bedroom door with just enough time to catch the last train if I'm not up - it's much harder to ignore him than to ignore the alarm clock.

Ugh. Up at 1 and 4, and then kept awake by the noisy party across the street. But she does settle well in the crate - since the door is closed this is proper crate training time, so I'm hoping that will help the house training. She's not bad, only the odd accident these days, but she's nearly 5 months old now, so she should be able to make it through the night!

Christ, 5 months and the dog is not house trained, and a girl dog to boot, takes me about 2 ~5 weeks and my dogs are clean, and a crate?

She's ALMOST house trained. And our dog trainer is a strong advocate in favour of crates - they give the dog a secure den to feel is their space.

a crate.................... i'ed never keep my dog in a crate, or never have ever kept my dogs in crate's, how does that work thats got to be American Idea! The British way is give's the run of the house, cus my house looks like a crate
