Following a suggestion earlier in this month's journals, I decided to have a Sunday brunch of kedgeree. I'd pick up some undyed smoked haddock yesterday, and thought I had most of the other ingredients. Except when I checked I had no curry paste, nor plain rice! Never mind, I thought, I'll call into a wee shop on my way back from walking Max round the river path.
The wee shop had no plain rice, but plenty of ready-to-cook pasta in packets . And no curry powder or paste of any description.
Never mind, I'll call into the Spar at the garage. They had a fair enough selection of rice, but no curry flavourings. And then I spotted a microwave packet of vegetable biryani, on special offer half price.
So, this was a bit of a cheats kedgeree, but it worked really well, and was very quick!
1 pack micro rice, biryani flavour
Smoked haddock, poached in milk in the microwave for 2 mins.
2 hard boiled eggs, chopped
Handful of frozen peas, cooked.
Mix everything in a saucepan to heat through, adding a little of the poaching milk to loosen, and some black pepper.

You're not selling it as a recipe.
Best kedgeree I ever had was at ReddyFreddy's place before one of the meets. Perfect boiled eggs, just slightly runny in the middle, fresh smoked haddock, lovely.

Sometimes convenience trumps authenticity
It was well received and has been requested again. So I have time to get more of the ingredients I need. I shall google a few recipes and see what I find.

Ah, had to run to friend Google again. Another 'native' dish of the UK zone, eh? It is a local fish atleast, isn't it?
