Gnomon - time to move on Posted Sep 7, 2011
I typed a reply yesterday, wishing you well, B, but I must not have pressed the Post button because there's no sign of it.
The gist of it was that if you normally drink beer, you're going to be used to lots of liquids, so drink fizzy water with a bit of fruit juice, or drink black tea. I like Earl Grey, myself.
If you're used to drinking wine, you won't need the liquid, just the alcohol. You'll have to do something else to distract yourself. You could teach yourself the Ukelele. Seriously, it's very easy.

Er, you can drink iced tea without sugar. I do. (I just have to fight the restaurant people about it.)

As a southerner, I don't think you're allowed to say that, Dmitri!

Heh-heh. They do roll their eyes.
The pitcher with the unsweetened iced tea is sitting over on the counter - where it's been all day...

I've been drinking a lot of herbal tea (it's blowing a gale here...)
but I whooped with delight tonight in Tesco when I found alcohol-free Chardonnay!
Ok it tastes like sort of grape or apple juice but not as sweet, and hasn't got the alcohol hit - but it just feels so nice to be opening a bottle of that shape and pouring a liquid of the right colour into a wine glass.

What about tonic water? You can pretend there's gin in it.

MMm, its a possible - I'm not a bit fan of fizziness though.
