Ah, bank holidays can be wonderful, n'est-ce pas?
The weather forecast was not great, and the bike's suspension not right, so we opted to get away from all the "things that need doing" around the house and let the car take us where it wanted. We headed for Torr Head, the most north-easterly point of Ireland.
Weather wise it was sunny with the odd cloud - cold and windy outside the car, but perfect for driving. The visibility was amazing - you can usually see the closest part of Scotland - the infamous Mull of Kintyre - pretty easily, but we could also make out the peaks on Islay, the paps of Jura, and the conical Ailsa Craig. And the East lighthouse on Rathlin Isalnd, above the cave where Robert the Bruce was inspired by a spider
Remarkably few other cars and bikes on the road - is everybody in a shopping mall?
Except of course on the twisty roads by the headland itself, where despite signs warning that the road was unsuitable for coaches and caravans, we had to inch past no fewer than 3 motorhomes!
Lunch at Laragh Lodge, beside Glenarriff forest park with its fantastic waterfalls, carpets of bluebells and teeny violets peeping behind the undergrowth. And swathes of wild garlic by the falls themselves.
Back home for a welcome massage, interupted only by pamphlet wielding preachy types. Then out for the evening to watch my daughter perform in Bugsy Malone, which she'd been doing as part of a "musical in a weekend" course.
Home for a little glass of chablis and some yummy runny brie
Purrfect.

And I thought that bank hols were for sitting in an A&E dept, after playing with "that jig saw you allways wanted, and a loved one bought for you for christmass, was used in anger for the very first time" I must admit, your bank hol sounds much better!
