GCSE results today.

My monsters had both done their French in 1 year, on their return from Luxembourg.

Daughter (just turned 13, about to start 2nd year) got an A. I phoned the result to her, and after screaming with delight she said "Oh Mum, I'm crying"

"So am I!" I replied.

Son (15, about to go and do the rest of his GCSEs this coming academic year) got an A*.

When I phoned him he said "smiley - bleep sweet! Now I can be a linguist in the Navy!"

I'm especially gald he got such a result, as he's the less academic of the pair, and needs a good boost to keep him keen for what is probably his last year at school.

So, yeah, what a couple of stars! We're all thrilled to bits.

For them both to paste on their foreheads! Wonderful news!

(Now, could I please get the translation of what those GSCHNMB letters mean? Feeling lost and foreign again)

Apologies Milla smiley - hug and welcome back - nice holiday?

GCSE
General Certificate of Secondary Education.

Used to be known as O levels.

They're the main exams that children sit before leaving school, and grades are very important to future emplyers/ universities etc.

Thanks! Lovely holiday! actually off this week too - school started yesterday, and am cleaning out attic to make room for remodeling! smiley - yikes

Are these exams taken every year, or at certain intervals? (Your children aren't twins as I remember...) Or only before leaving - so can use them to apply for uni?

I thought them bairns were too young for uni??

For Milla's benefit:

Yes, GCSEs are normally sat at the end of 5th form (Confusingly called year 12 - 5 at secondary and 7 years at primary school)

But they can be sat earlier if the pupils are capable of it.

Brilliant! Great!

It makes you forget all the gripes you have about them, doesn't it. And it's quite an achievement, as they may have picked up the lingo in Luxembourg, but writing it is a completely different kettle of smiley - fishsmiley - hsifsmiley - sharksmiley - bluefishsmiley - orangefishsmiley - schooloffish
