So, Scottish people hate 'The English' and like chips. But chips have killed more Scots over the last century than English people have. By a factor of several hundred.
This does, however, mean that Scotland could actually work as an independent nation. My concern had been that without the emotional crutch of English-blaming Scotland would be lost. But now we can blame chips for everything.
After all, what has more resonance: "I hate the English for the Highland clearances" or "I hate chips, half my relatives died of heart disease"?
