Walking to work

Post 1

Recently, I've started to walking to work. Usually I cycle, which is pleasent enough and only takes about 15 minutes. Walking takes about 30, but I get to listen to my mp3 player at the same time (I know some people cycle with headphones, but I refuse to do that).

It's been lovely these last few days - blue skies, crisp, cold weather, and autumnal leaves to kick my way through.

I also put my tracks on random, which left me with a few wonderfully odd moments as my brain switched out of one mode into another. This morning I listened through a Ravel orchestral movement, two Flanders and Swann songs, a Pressgang track, some Steeleye Span and finally a track from The Who. smiley - silly I'm looking forward to the walk home already!

I had a nice long walk to the job centre this morning. It's a beautiful, crisp autumn day, and it's amazing how warm the house feels when you get home. smiley - smiley

Absolutely. You get that lovely tingly sensation when you get back inside.

Plus today is the first day we've had a radio in our office. The prison service cut it's prison-wide PRS licenses and we've just bought our own. smiley - biggrin It may only be ClassicFM but it's so much better than silence (and the noise of the photocopier, trains from the train station etc.).

Today has been a good day.

We have no radio in this office, thank goodness. I can't think with music playing. I'd get nothing done.

Oddly, it helps me. When it's silent all around me, I often find myself just staring at my screen. It's as though the pulse of the music keeps my brain ticking.

It is at a very low volume though, and it is classical music. A commercial radio station, with lots of talking and lots of adverts, makes me go crazy.

I nipped out at lunch time to walk through the public gardens opposite the office. Lovely, sunny, crisp day.

I'm really enjoying the walking thing, but I'm pretty sure I'll revert back to cycling when the bad weather kicks back in, and it gets darker again.

Much as where I live is a pretty safe place, it's just not as fun to walk in the dark.

Apparently, music at work is good for you! Even as early as the 60's it was suggested to be so.
