My mouse recently snapped off at the bit-that-plugs-into-the-back-of-the-computer (excuse the techinical terms). Advantage of a laptop being that I can use the touchpad anyway.

This one is a pain in the butt. It's like it needs to *warm up* in the mornings...it's fine now. However it wasn't an hour ago.

I find it helps to scrape all the crud off the little rollers with my fingernail. I also keep the mouse's feet clean. I have s mouse mat with a wristrest at work and it seems to help - it keeps your hand off the surface of the mat so you don't get so much crud on it. I'm not suggesting you've got dirty hands, but dead skin and oils from the skin all go to bung your mouse up.

If you're getting a new one I can recommend the ball-less optical ones - the ones with a red light underneath. I have one at home - it's cool - just keeps mousing. smiley - smiley

I got a mouse without balls. It still needs cleaning though. smiley - weird For a start tiny fibres/hairs can get in the way of the red light and make it think the surface is somewhere else. smiley - erm

I got an h2g2 mouse mat. I used it for less than a day. It was awful. smiley - cross The mouse wouldn't move properly at all (and it didn't feel nice under my hand either). It was hard enough navigating the screen but it nearly ruined one of my CA graphics by making the mouse jump around. smiley - yikes I had to revert back to my previous setup in order to get anything done. smiley - online2long

Same here, the pepsi has long since dried, and the opticals are working again - but in anger I sorta broke the scroll wheel, so it's now just a glorified middle-button. smiley - sadface

Ah well.

my intellimouse explorer gave up any hope of working properly a few days ago, so now I have two optical mice on my desk - and then it started (sort of) working again. I need a new USB cord. smiley - erm
