I'm in the process of packing up my *stuff* for a move ... so I hope y'all will forgive my infrequent posts!
Where did I get all these books?!

Ten years of accumulation needs to fit into a 10 x 10 foot storage space. Maybe I should have rented the 10 x 20.

I'm sure you'll find a way to make it fit!

There you go!
Marvelous idea, I must say. I'm paring my belongings down to bare minumums. It'll be nice to travel light again.

Minumums? Did I just say minumums? I meant minimum. Yeesh. I've been packing too long.
Thus far, the total number of boxes packed = one. I've tossed out about five.

Why are you moving, Avenging?

Hi Red
I'm sorry I didn't answer this thread earlier.
I'm moving because my widowed mother has invited me to bunk-up with her for a while. This will give both of us a welcome financial break by combining our resources. The arrangement isn't meant to be permanent ... only for a year. We'll see how it goes from there. My hope is that in a year's time, I'll be in the perfect position to buy a home of my own.
Also, because my mother is 82, she could use some help ... although her health is excellent. I'll have to be careful not to allow her to wait on me, as doting is in her nature. It's her turn now to take it easy.
I feel a bit embarrassed to reveal what I'm doing, because at my age, it seems rather pathetic to be moving in with a parent. I much prefer my independence and privacy, but when we considered the benefits of being together, it became clear that this would be a good idea.
I'm getting a little excited about the move and the extra time I'll be able to spend with Mom. I'm looking forward to it.

Nice one, Avenging. Good move I reckon.
We seem to have stuff in common. My Dad is/was a powerful individual and my mum is a doter.
On a lighter note. tonight i got Lady Scott a vote. Cool, or what

Well, gee, I didn't even know you were a candidate, Lady Scott. Here, you can have my vote, too. Just don't raise taxes or reduce social programs.
Yikes! I'm moving!
Lady Scott Posted Jul 28, 2004
You'll vote for me?! Really? That's so sweet!

All you have to do is post on there that you vote for me.
And bring all your friends too!
( They each need to post under their own user number, of course.)

yes paul I'm afraid you have to travel across the time and space of hootoo and actually land in that thread to make it official. Wow are we on a roll? If this carries on lady Scott may soon have the CIA knocking at her door. And I'll have MI6 knocking at my door.....Wow. POWER is the only true drug......

In case any of you care ...
The move has been delayed for two months (until Early October), since there's really no rush, and it will take me a while to whittle my possessions down to fit in the allotted storage space. That, and I've been called for jury duty this week, so that puts a kink in my plans.
I'm loving getting rid of my old stuff! I'm doing the "feng shui" thing with the excess clutter. Less is more ... it really is.

Bet you find him not guilty..... Just so long as you don't let outside forces stop you doing what's right for you Avenging; or I'll get very very cross indeed. And I'm not kidding. Seriously you must do it if you think its right! No later than October or I'll catch the next fighter jet over the pond and sort you out big time.....

I *had* planned to move on August 22nd, but after two solid weekends of sorting out and packing stuff I realized that there was absolutely not enough time to accomplish so much, unless I wanted to work night and day, every available moment, which I don't. I wouldn't have time to sleep. That's why I put the brakes on the timing of this move and gave myself a more leisurely schedule. I've lived here for ten years, which makes the job larger than it would have been otherwise ... mostly due to areas of gross neglect.
I talked to Mom about it, and she was relieved to have some more time herself ... but no, I won't delay this beyond Octember, Red.
Thanks for caring.

I've been tossing out excess stuff at random times for months now - and I have to agree, it feels great to get rid of stuff!
I've been able to find specific people to give certain things to, but there's been lots that went to Goodwill, and other stuff that went right into the trash.
Why, oh why was I keeping this stuff around?!

I agree. I should have decluttered my life long ago.
By the way, if you want to get a good view of Canton, Ohio (right where I live), those of you who are Americans can see it on Mday Night Football this Sodit on ABC at 8PM EST ... it's the Hall of Fame Exhibition Game that kicks off the NFL season. This year, the Denver Broncos are playing against the Washington Redskins.
The Goodyear blimp always shows a good view of Fawcett Stadium and the surrounding area which is about a mile from where I grew up and where I wo*k. I drive through that part of town on my way to and from wo*k every day. By the way, Fawcett Stadium, where the game is played is my old high school stadium! ... That's the place where I was chased by a lot of guys in my younger days.
