Long time gone - couldn't resist coming back for a look now h2g2 is free again!
Nothing much seems to have changed here. In my other existence, the changes have been enormous - baby A is now a four year old boy.
We have no plans to send him to school - we are lucky to have found a lovely group of home educating families in the area, so we are in no way isolated.
I intend to take things very slowly here at h2g2 so that I don't get overwhelmed. I'll potter about and see how it goes

I'm not sure I remember you having a baby. Now he is 4! Where does the time go?
Sol & kelli have children in that age group. Kelli had quite the ordeal getting her older son into a decent school.

Hi WM,
Yes, I remember being pregnant at the same time as Kelly. Also, I knew about
Sol's children as I lurk her blog from time to time.
I was thinking I'd changed quite a lot since becoming a mother but actually I'm probably much the same as I ever was!
I found the baby bit quite challenging but really enjoying my son now, I have such fun with him
How are you doing these days?

Oi, you'll be sorry you asked.
Finally divorced about a year ago, it took 4 years to get there. Had to sell the house, which just happen earlier this month. I'm living temporarily in my sister's beach house with my 2 grown daughters while we wait until I close on a condo. That should happen within a week, bob willing. Most of my earthly possessions are stored in a locked trailer at an undisclosed location. Ex still lives in the US but married a prostitute in Thailand a few months ago. Never bothered to tell his children. Oh, and I just found out yesterday that I need surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome.
Bored, yet?
I really ought to write a novel.

Wow! Sounds like you've been having a very turbulent time.
Fingers crossed for the condo ....and the surgery!
Here's hoping you get settled in soon and life becomes more peaceful.

In a parallel universe I am now a grandad for the third time. Oldest one is 4 years old so there's a bit of a similarity there. Been looking after two of them twice a week up to now and just started with the third. Doing it mostly on my own and it's hard work at times. End of the day finds me
Been through a divorce, lost everything etc. Things get better and a day comes when you can look back and smile. Hope things go well regarding the carpal tunnel syndrome.

Thank you both for the good wishes. The renaissance of h2g2 has been a bright spot amidst the challenges of day to day real life.

Hey Candi! Good to see you back. The weirdest thing about people coming back is that it's like a little time machine. I remember you having the baby! It's not as weird with kelli, because she never left, and so her kids have grown up on site.
Home schooling, eh? Any particular reason?
Carpal tunnel syndrome, Witty? Blegh. I had a touch of that when I was pregnant with the Star. Not pleasant. Good luck on the condo though.

Hi Sol
No particular reason for home educating... Years ago, when having a baby was just a future possibility we thought it looked like an interesting option, then once we had him, many of the families I got to know with children the same age were thinking about home ed, so we realised we'd have a good support network if we did try it, then our son did not take particularly well to the few sessions at the local montessori nursery.... He said he didn't want to go to school (not that we'd ever said he had to go) So I did a lot of research and we decided that we wouldn't send him unless circumstances pushed us into it.
I feel very lucky to be able to do this for however long it works.

Hmm. Plenty of circumstantial evidence that this is indeed a true story.
Oh, you mean this wasn't an entry for A87679886 ?

No, it's true, I really did have a baby and now he is 4 years old.... Unless it's just a very realistic and persistent hallucination!

Realistic and persistent and frequently sticky if mine is anything like yours.
I don;t think I could home educate full time. I like teaching my son stuff, or perhaps I should say, watching him learn, but it's too full on for me. It's a shame there aren't part time school options when they finally hit compulsory schooling age.

Some schools do offer part time places, but it is quite rare. A friend of mine is moving to a village near Oxford and has negotiated a part time place for her son at the village school. I think it's known as flexi-schooling.
I agree that it's more watching them learn than teaching. I'm aiming to be a (very alert and pro-active) facilitator, rather than a teacher.
