Your final day where?
Here on h2g2?
Or on Earth?
Where are you going?

Just work-related - not life/h2g2! And I don't know where I'm going yet - I've got to get on to that next week (but I will be going somewhere - which is a comfort!)

phew!
You ~really~ had me worried there!
I though you'd heard that there was a meteor the size of New York heading for the Earth
Oh, sorry, that was from a film I watched last week...the scary thing is, that ~could~ happen!
I hear from the aceforum that you've applied to become an ACE, well done, I was just made one, and I'm really enjoying the status!
I like to greet newcomers from the new list:
http://www.h2g2.com/newusers
You click in the box for it to show researchers who have activated their homepages {or you can't message them} then it gives you links you just click and you're at their homepage! Very simple. I just introduce myself, tell them about the ACEs, and say if you need a hand or have any problems, to just click reply.
Not many get back to you though, particularly if you are greeting someone who joined 4 weeks previously.
I make a point of greeting once a week, that way no-one gets missed.
The sooner the newcomers find out we are friendly people, not just automated greetings put out by the editors, the better, IMHO.
Anyone can say hello to newcomers though, not just ACEs or angels, so if you want to get practising, it'll look good for when they are deciding whether to let you be an ACE or not!
Hope all goes well with the job-hunting, KC!

Well congratulations of becoming and Ace!
I've greeted a couple of people already; I had a look at what the Aces said and generally did the same thing. It never ceases to amaze me how everyone comes up with a different introduction to themselves!
I didn't know about the newcomers page - cheers! I was looking at the who's online window and seeing who'd started writing articles.
