Have you ever thought its just as simple as "we are here because we are here - so why dont we just enjoy what we have"

Perhaps.... You see, I was in an intoxicated state at the time of my entry. But I still have a problem with life. Not my life, or anyone elses in particular. But I don't know how long the world can go on operating on the assumption that this is it. This is all. Nothing divine, nothing imaginary, nothing better than this. Perhaps this is some other planets hell. Oh, well. Life goes on I suppose.

All that matters is that you've asked the question the great question about Life the Universe and Everything. I don't believe the answer is 42 I believe that there is no answer so we just have to make the best of what we have got. Anyway for your thoughts I'll put you on my home page as a progressor of humanity. Come and visit it and see what good company you are in.

I came. I saw. I was impressed...still am.
Consequently I got disturbed. Yet that is just fine with me I love getting disturbed. Wonderfully disturbing home page you have there Mark.
Philosophy
Mark Rest Posted Oct 29, 1999
Glad you were impressed. Woould you share with me why you were disturbed?
Philosophy
Imaldris Posted Nov 24, 1999
Because its about life. Life disturbs me. Therefore you're page disturbs me. I love being disturbed therefor I love life therefore I love your page. Ta da. Here's tom with the whether or not. ( I'll give you specific details in the next episode.))

Mark Rest Posted Nov 26, 1999
I'm looking forward to the specific details. I hope your talking about the bit where I say we are what we are so lets just make the most of it and enjoy what we have got.

I can agree with that. I like that actually , but
Ultimate Truth. Hmmmm....
I'd like to say that I could enjoy what I have yet it seems that once again I am blocked by this unmitigated sense of purpose, or maybe a sense of no purpose. It's rather disgruntling. The funniest part about this whole life thing, I am troubled about it more than most but I seem to be having a good time while do not appear to be. Coincidence? I think not. I don't think I would have all that great of a time unless I was lying awake at night trying to grope for some sense of reason and purpose. Come now if we knew what lay ahead this would all be in vain. And I'd have nothing to bitch about. I'm happy with 42.
The other day I was having a conversation with my friend snicolai. Basically we were discussing different aspects of human nature. Which finally led us to wondering if the entire population sits around occaionally trying to fathom life, the universe and everything. Which led us to the answer no. Because if they did we would all be lying on beaches smoking pot and dropping acid. (and perhaps drowning now and then) Do you like people??? Do you like society??? Do you like to own things?? Ocassionally,no, yes.
We would all be Wonko's the Sane (which I might add would not be a bad thing) Perhaps if we let go we could learn to hit the ground and miss.
I do like your page though.

Yes I do like people and society although I've turned a bit shy of late. On one level its very important. For instance today I saw my son's nativity play, now how's that for life affirming stuff. If you drift off into considering what it all means and where its going then your on a different level. On this level things aren't so important as there's nothing that can be done to change it. If I'm right then there isn't a reason behind all this anyway.
Its good to share your thoughts with your friend. I cannot believe people en masse ponder the meaning of life. You may be right that for people who do taking drugs is inevitable. I hope not. Try to have some fun.
Thanks for the kind words about the home page.

I can't believe people pondering enmasse on the meaning of life either.
But wouldn't it be nice?
Now, the thing that irritates me is we all go around with our religions on our sleeves and faces, yet none really consider what life means or the possibilities that could be entreating us all to move forward. But how do you "enmasse" move forward when people refuse to talk about anything but superficial insignificant bullshits.
Society likes conformity. Unfortunately I did not have a choice whether or not I wanted to be with society or against. I am just here. You have a child so therefore there are different priorities involved with your life and the conculsions you find are not only yours but the one's you'll pass along. It's just plain different.
I think it is nice that atleast there is One web site that tries to breach the fabric. Trying to understand, I can appreciate that.
The world probably is just turning on its own.

You ask how can society move forward when it just gets caught up with insignificant bullshit. Well the UK government have tried...but I warn you its not a popular idea. Its the Millenium Dome. Widely ridiculed but I don't know exactly why. To someone who doesn't know the history they would see it as a society trying to define what it is a where it is going. It covers many important subjects as work, learning, play, rest as well as our spiritual side.
Despite all the bad press its booked out for the first few weekends in 2000 and I'm going in March. See you there?

Imaldris Posted Feb 3, 2000
Can you explain to me about this dome. What and where is it??? If it is in the UK you will most likely not see me there as that I am tied down to a university desk in the US at the moment.

Mark Rest Posted Feb 4, 2000
The Millennium Dome is a bit like Disney's EPCOT park. There is a definate involvement of the vistor to think about the issues presented.
On a different tack have you heard about complexity theory? I find it a useful way to understand so much of the modern world. I've just read how its been applied to working out how organisations tend to be half way between anarchy and monarchy.

Imaldris Posted Feb 7, 2000
Actually no i haven't but perahps soon I will. I'm up for anything that will give me a bit more understanding. and not to mention I've always been a fan of anarchy....

For understanding go to Si's home page. And think about what he says. I've just worked out that his name is short for Silicon. Do you know why?

You can find Si by checking out his "Complexity Theory" page. Or these his sister JAX.
