Today, I was cleaning out some of the detritus from last semester. Most of it amounted to my abysmal calculus homework and quizzes, and I thought about how much time and energy I had put into it for so little results.
I thought about the coming semester, and I realized I was dreading the next math class, differential equations. I asked myself if I thought it would be worth it, and I was surprised to find that the answer was a resounding "NO!"
So, I got online, looked up classes, and changed my schedule. Instead of Differential Equations, I'm taking Personal Finance for Non-Business Majors.
I mean, it's not like it won't be useful- It'll teach me how to manage my money, if I ever get enough to manage. It's not differential equations, which I was only taking if I needed a geophysics class in graduate school, and that's becoming less likely as I learn about which specialties I like. Still, if I needed one, I'm sure that the school would either waive the last math requirement or let me take it when I needed to. All I need is the three credits to keep my health insurance, and Personal Finance satisfies that as well as Large Scary Equations.
And the class might be good for my wallet, too, as it'll get me away from the shops in the student center at lunchtime on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
I'm trying to convince myself that I didn't chicken out... But I think this will be better for me in the long run!

You are not chickening out. You are giving yourself the best chance of finishing your course with good grades.

My parents thought so too! I called them thinking they'd be angry at me for dropping it, but my mom said,
"Andrea, I don't care if you take Mickey Mouse 101, as long as you're full time!"
They thought it was better that I wasn't beating my head against the wall. Anyway, I'm taking all these other classes this semester, and I have a full plate already!

sounds sensible to me
when I was at Keele there was a requirement for all arts students to take at least 1 science course
the most popular by far was commonly known as Maths for Morons

Hey, who cares as long as you get what you want out of it which is obviously your degree, I agree with your mum, whatever you do don't take cake decorating, it's not as easy as it looks, I do have a nice picture of the rabbit I did for Alex one year

Maths for Morons...
Earth Science is popular, so is a class called Chemistry for Everyone. There's a few physics options with light and sound, too.
I almost took Foundations of Drawing or Intro to Food Preparation, but they both had course fees!

I did statistics which I've mostly forgotten but has come in useful on ocasion. I'm sure Personal Finance will come in useful and thats good

Glad you took my advice Scan , well if you took food preparation and personal finance you could have become the next Martha Stewart

I think you made the right choice. I question the sanity of those who willingly subject themselves to classes such as Diffy Q.

I think you'd do better in in Advanced Typos 101, Cat.

What's the strangest class they have there, the weirdest one, something like Advanced Klingon maybe

Scan, I know how you're feeling, that's just like what I just did with Arabic... figured there's no point killing myself over something I don't like, so at least now I don't have to write so many papers. Wise choice.

Thanks LP, Cat, Akron...
There was one course not offered anymore called the geography of wine... that would have been fun!
