I've moved into my new apartment, and I absolutely love it! It's a little two room deal with a dishwasher, washer and dryer, large bathroom and giant walk-in closet! Well, by "giant" I mean "I can fit all my books in there and still have room for my clothes," but anyway.

I've also inherited a little 10 gal saltwater tank. This is my first time taking care of saltwater fish, and I really hope I don't kill them. I'm going to have to get a new thermometer- the one on the side of the tank stinks. And I'll have to pick up some distilled water. Apparently the tap water around here is too hard.

As far as I can tell, the inhabitants of the tank consist of an ocellaris clownfish, two damsels (yellow and blue), a great big snail, two hermit crabs, about 40 smaller snails or crabs (I can't tell which they are yet), what appear to be some barnacles, a few tiny bristleworms that have hitchhiked on the live rocks, and I think maybe some kind of bivalve that's harmlessly stuck on one of the rocks and sticks a fleshy appendage out at night. I still have my betta, Levi, as well. Babel died last year after a short battle with a bacterial infection. I put him into one of the water hazards in the golf course.

My parents don't know about this yet. I have the feeling that they're going to kill me when they find out.

They know about the apartment- they love it!

I just hope they're coming up with my grandparents when they find out about the fish. That way, maybe they won't freak out as much.

Or tell them either of the following, 1) You've bought a really expensive posh cat which will only eat fresh food or 2) That you're planning on opening one of those seafood restaurants where you choose your meal from out of the aquarium and you need to practice

I used to think that dying was what fishes do, eventually.

Except for our current goldfish in the outdoor pond - we don't feed it, we often forget to replenish it with water, and every so often our hobbits throw toys at it so see what it will do.

And yet, it refuses to float. It's been in our pond almost since we arrived in the house. There was even a time many years ago when I thought it was gone, but it mysteriously re-appeared a few weeks later apparently after hibernating.

Strange animals, fish.

They know how I am around cats! Achoo, achoo, achoo! That, and my mom doesn't like housecats either.

Hmm... covering it up... *Drapes a tablecloth over the aquarium. Listens to the filter run.*

Well, maybe I could put a fountain on it... smiley - erm

Fish still aren't dead! In fact, the color on the yellow one looks a little better. I think they liked that shrimp I fed them.
