Just sit there and be quiet...

I have this problem:
I think a "teachable moment" is when others should shut up and listen to me.
This makes life very interesting for people who get paid or designated to teach.
Of course, if they were any good, they'd already be teaching the right things and I wouldn't have anything to say at all.
In which case, I wouldn't even be there. I'd be off making someone else's life difficult...
probably my own.

So do you want to elaborate?

Just part of my Aspie experience.
When I want other people to focus on what I'm focusing on, they are usually focusing on finding an exit, because when I talk about something I'm thinking about, it becomes a brain dump. The whole file and it's associations come falling out.
It's hard to do a narrow search with me.
Every time I open my mouth, I have to reject a 157 things before I find something almost appropriate. Once I've started, though, a lot of what seems like free association to other people begins to flow, also.
Many find it overwhelming. Others find it boring. Some think it is an attempt on my part to make their lives difficult on purpose. Others think I'm nuts.
With the child's teachers, it seems that I am an interruption in their day. Bad enough to try to deal with the tendencies of a lump of teenaged hormonal strangeness without having to deal with the big lump that fathered it.
Then there are the people at church. They keep popping up with inspirational books and spouting catch phrases and I find the whole thing absolutely mind-bogglingly wasteful. The Bible itself should be inspiration enough. I find reference works a useful appendage to the Bible, but these folks would rather ignore any scholarship that doesn't make them feel good. And I don't let them feel good. I try to make them think.

So sorry you are not being respectfully listened to.
That is craptastic stinkin' thinkin' on their part.
You are an interested parent. Do they get a lot of those?
I think you come across well thought out, sensitive and a very caring father. You write extremely well. Could you possibly write to the teachers? It is always a good way to be sure you are heard.
As for the church people, I get enjoyment through your tales.
I live vicariously through your energy for tackling their brains with reason and personal boundaries along with the good book.
Every church should have somebody like you challenging stereotypes and non-thinkers

"Every church should have somebody like you challenging stereotypes and non-thinkers"
If there were, there might soon be fewer churches...
On the other hand, our pastor almost got ex-communicated last week for standing up for free speech in the Baylor College student newspaper. It came out for gay marriages and the administration is frothing at the mouth.

*sigh*
It's a Crazy World - people worry about the wrong things.
I will never understand people trying to ban love while seeking to produce more hate.
