Kate Winslet won two Golden Globes. One for The Reader, and one for Revolutionary Road. Woo hoo!

*raises glass of to Ms. Winslet* I had heard her performance in The Reader was award-worthy, I'll have to see that.

I can't see 'The Reader' until I've read the book - which has been sitting on my shelf for a couple of years now. Since I bought two copies, one in English and one in the original, with the intention of fulfilling one of my periodic promises to improve my German...I may not get around to it for some time.
Similarly...I can't see 'Atonement'. I've got a fair way through the book on a number of occasions. It's utterly brilliant! But I've got a strange habit of losing my copy before I finish it.

I'm always doing that, ETB! Misplacing the book I'm reading for an hour or day or two...(not due to age, I've done it all my life, especially with really good books).
The Reader is a good, very German post-Holocaust book (yes I found it in the end). I'm a bit worried about because the main character (Kate Winslet I presume) seems to be ambiguous about the whole thing throughout. A definite anti-hero, though not intrinsically a Nazi. They must have changed it for the film.

I didn't think much of "The Reader" as a book, which I read ages ago. So I shall be interested in the film, as I wouldn't like to miss it, Kate Winslet being worth watching any time.

Quite right, Trillian's child. I should have made it plain that I thought it was a good book, not let it look like a dogmatic statement rather than the expression of my opinion, (Post 5).

Hi yall. I was disappointed that Leo and Kate were passed over for Oscar nominations for Revolutionary Road.

Was Revolutionary Road eligible to be nominated this time? It's so recent, it might fall into next year's bucket...

Can't find my copy of Benhardt Schlink's 'The Reader'/'Der Leser'
But did find a copy of Updike's 'Rabbit, Run'
Key: Complain about this post
