I've decided to set aside this place just to talk about movies I've seen lately, and how much I do or don't like them. I'll be writing about both the latest stuff in theatres, and my favorites on DVD. I'm not aspiring to write all out reviews, just my impressions of films, and whether I think they are worth seeing. I welcome feedback from moviegoers out there. (Especially from Purple Dragon and Psychocandy - you two know your movies! ) Popcorn anyone? *House lights go down*
PS I don't want to spoil plots for anyone. If I do write something that gives away plot points, I will write SPOILER and the name of the film at the top of my post. I ask that anyone posting to this thread do the same please, when giving away key details. (If this doesn't work well, I'll try doing a seperate thread just for spoilers, but I'm hoping to keep everything on one thread for now)

Okay...what movie do you want to talk about???...the two latest that I have gone to see are Hulk and Hollywood Homicide.

My first movie of the moment is Murder by Death. This is a hilarious comedy about a group of detectives who gather in a fog shrouded mansion to solve a murder that hasn't happened yet. All of the conventions of murder mysteries are gleefully spoofed. Alec Guiness is soooooo funny as the blind butler, who has great difficulty communicating with the deaf cook. Peter Falk plays a Humphrey Bogart type character. Peter Sellers plays an oriental detective who can't remember his participles. It's really a great cast, and they take on the witty Neil Simon script with relish.

I haven't heard of Letters from a Small Island, Creachy! What is it about? Have you seen it?
Andrea, I've been debating over whether to see the Hulk movie. I never liked the old TV series, but the movie is getting good reviews, and MadHamish wants me to see it. What did you think?

it is basically an Americans account of his trip round England. i haven't seen it myself yet but it has had good reviews and wanted someone elses opinion before i go to see it.
Murder by Death sounds good

Ooooo, I've been to England twice, and loved it, so I bet I would like "Letters" Hope it comes to Memphis - sometimes the smaller films don't make it here. I will keep an eye out for it.

it is a theatrical performance and there is a book, i think apparently it has good humour to it. the American view of everything must be big meets British quintess type thing

Ooop, I should have mentioned that Murder By Death is on DVD, not in the theatres. It is a little hard to get a hold of too, you usually have to wait a while to get it on Netflix.

*adds Murder by Death to must buy DVD list...from your review there's no way that I will not like it.*
*plans to get the book of Letters from a Small Island
Hulk is really worth going to...there were some very funny moments...the plot kept you guessing...but it was frustrating too in the aspect of some of the emotionalessness of the characters-REALLY could not see what their motivations were-they all seemed to be acting on whims. Some parts were corny. I think it is probably a movie better seen on the big screen though-the effects are great-and some of the actors were really great-just that emotion problem . Anyone else?

Hmmm, Hulk sounds promising then. I may have to check it out while it's still on the big screen, it looks like the type of movie that would lose a lot on the TV screen. Same goes for X-Men2. I've been holding off seeing that one because I want to see X-Men1 first. But I'd better get in gear, because X-Men2 won't be on the big screen forever.

I liked the second X-Men movie better but both were good...the second is definetly another one that should see on the big screen.

i thought both were a bit weak in plot. they both seemed to rely on wolverine too much. X-Men has so much potential it is dissapointing what they have done so far but thats just my view

What did you think of Hollywood Homicide, Andrea? I like Harrison Ford a lot, but that movie got panned so bad! I haven't seen it.

The more views the better Creachy. From multiple opinions you can get a much better feel for a movie, and whether you would like it or not. That is why I love the website Rotten Tomatos: it has excerpts from dozens of reviews.

i didn't think it was all bad. for example, they have built Magneto and professor X up quite well. i look forward to the next movie.

Hollywood Homicide was absolutely hilarious...from the description of the plot it sounds like it would be awful...it is not the typical Harrison Ford superhero role...the characters' lives are so chaotic...my favorite part of it was the fact that a lot of people do lead lives like this ....my boyfriend laughed throughout so I think it is a great date movie too.
