The mostly black covers with a small picture is the set my older brother has. I have the set with colorful illustrations on the covers, only now the pages are yellowed. The first time I read them I borrowed his set. We bought the second five books individually as they were released(one a year). Then I bought my set of the first five books.

I have never seen the hardcover HHGTTG at all. I might have to order that. I love the bargain book tables myself. I also collect old books from thrift stores and garage sales. Someone recently gave me a stack of hardcover American Heritage magazines. Some of them dated back to 1956.

That's cool. I was wandering around the library at the college I'm visiting, and they had all sorts of old hardcover magazines and such. They had NYtimes indexes from 1905, and every year of Harper's Magazine.

The hardbound guide I have has every book in it, as well as a short story. I can't remember who published it, but I'll look as soon as I get home.

If I ever actually work in a library they would have to kick me out at night. I enjoy books. My collection of old books includes novels bought for a quarter at the thrift store, old textbooks(history books from the 1930's, 1940's)and some reference books.

Have you ever heard of the Lincoln Library? If you haven't it is a reference book that was published in the 1930's-1940's. They were sold door to door in an effort to spread literacy and promote education and culture. I inherited one from Dad's mother, another was a gift from Mom's mother and a third one was sitting on the table at a book sale for one dollar and fifty cents. You guessed it, that one came home toosmiley - winkeye.

Old magazines are like looking through a window into the past. The ads are especially representative of the culture of the time period. The clothing, hairstyles, etc.

I would greatly appreciate a ISBN # for the hardcover guide. Or the publisher's name and address.

Would you like some smiley - tea? Could I interest you in some smiley - cake? How are you Vidmaster? Our weather actually looks like Autumn. Which means just about everyone is happy and relieved Summer is over.

By the way, I found the book at amazon.

smiley - tea and smiley - cake are always welcome. Thank you.

I'm still doing well. Calculus is difficult, especially since I discovered that I was not taught a significant portion of the background in high school. So I'm trying to teach myself the necessary stuff, and will probably go and ask the professor for help if I still don't get it. My other classes are going well and are quite interesting. Political science has been largely review so far, but freshman studies has been really cool. It's like a combination english and philosophy class that's meant to give us a common background and knowledge base. The first book we read was Chuang Tzu's basic writings, which is largely Taoist in nature. It's given me a new way of thinking about reality.

The weather is getting colder. There were rumors of snow last night, but it didn't happen. I'm expecting it not to happen for a couple weeks, but the weather does change much more quickly here than it does in Montana.

I'm glad to hear that you found the book. The latest thing I've been reading is Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. They are probably the best books I've ever read. The other series that I'm in the middle of is Tad Williams' Otherland, which is also very good, but in a different way.

How have you been lately? Done anything interesting?

Math is one of the worst subjects in which to have a missing link. I say this from experience, as I had plenty of missing math linkssmiley - winkeye. What are Terry Goodkind's books about? I haven't really read my way through the stack of "books to be read before buying anything new" far enough to go anywhere near a bookstore.

I went to a Book Bazaar at Louisiana State University...thousands of books were donated to be sold. My purchases were simply a few cookbooks, a book of Currier and Ives prints(circa 1942) and a couple of large history books.

Been working on writing lately. Nothing much, just something I hadn't spent much time doing in a while. Other than that, just a hurricane(details in my journal) and a Paul McCartney concert last Saturday in New Orleans.

School is going well. Classes are easier this term, or at least more understandable by me. I'm still enjoying it, which is good.

How are you doing?
