At the risk of sounding like an airport announcer during a cyclone, we're pleased to announce that the delayed DNA 1.01 upgrade will now take place at 10.30am BST (9.30am GMT) on Wednesday, 29 May. As always, this may be subject to change, but keep your fingers crossed and your lucky gonks handy, and we could be in business.
This means that h2g2 and all other DNA sites will be unavailable for three hours from 10.30am to 1.30pm BST, but the upside is that when the site comes back, it will be running DNA 1.01 (see <./>Versions-DNA-1-01</.> for details). Will it be worth the wait? Of course it will!

*gets out his lucky stuffed penguin and sits him near his laptop*
My computer never seems to crash when it's around, which is a pretty remarkable achievement, so it must be lucky!
[ note] Subtle Linux/Windows undertone alert.

Well me'll be in a french exam so I'll miss all the action of pressing refresh again and again, Cthulhu... Shall I tell you how I pronounce your name, By the way?
(I say Chew-loo )
Anyway, French isn't my strong point, so wish me luck!!
(You scratch my back, I scratch yours, yeah? )
*fingers crossed for both of us *

And if I ever tried to pronounce your name, it'd probably come out like a Chinese meal order (not that there's anything wrong with the chinese language)...

Having, of course, to click that link, I found myself in a forum hanging off a no-longer existant entry
But actually I'll use my mouse and the silly little page-symbol with the green arrows
*carefully covers all mirrors with towels to ensure against breakage*

Mirrors? Towels?
Ahh, you are obviously not using a stupid pointbutton thingie in the middle of your keyboard (strange Laptop pointing devices) to control your cursor.

Nope, optical mouse
Guarding against bad luck! 7 years for one mirror! I don't want to have to wait *that* long for the upgrade!

Would someone please enlighten me as to what a Gonk is? And how is it lucky? And what different positions it can have?
And you'll be delighted to know that following the Upgrade I have an AS Level Computing exam

As Mark noted, see <./>Versions-DNA-1-01</.> for details... basically, most of this upgrade is behind-the-scenes, streamlining things and eliminating bugs... not a major upgrade to the way you use the site

For Silverfish, Archangel Silly Willy and anyone else who doesn't remember the 60/70's, a Gonk is an oblate spheroid lifeform, usually with an artificial fur coat in a vivid dayglo colour - but can be of felt with hair as above. Feet and hands are felt as are eyes which are permanently fixed in a very surprised expression. This could be due to usage of the smallest of the species as pencil tops.
Then, they were most often found appearing on university quiz programmes, examination desks and dressing tables, but now most likely to be found in charity shops and dark corners of your parents lofts.
