h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

An interesting idea popped into my mind this afternoon as I was fiddling with the pages linked to from my personal space. I was trying to think of a reason to turn them into cross-site articles but couldn't convince myself to waste the A-numbers. Instead I came up with the idea of a page using to display different things on each site, so that appropiate pages for that site were linked to. The first use I thought up for this was for official help pages.

The above is a rather bad description of the concept. Concisely a 'signpost' is a page of links, where the type of page is constant, but the actual pages vary from site to site.

So far I've written a bit of the Help signpost, which will link to the appropiate official help pages for each site. Any ideas are welcome.

I've also just been watching 'Innovationation' on BBC One, and actually found it mildly interesting despite being cheap(!) evening programming. Some actual design happening instead of just the boring competition bits at the beginning. Not really in enough depth though.

A risky thing to mention beyond the concept of U-numbers (which I suppose all the help pages could have been anyway if the staff had wanted). I suspect the need to have the staff of each site update their part of the page (eg for subtle details of rules differences) will make it difficult to operate in practice.

Staff? I deliberately didn't mention staff, because I had thrown out the idea of suggesting this for official pages themselves for precisely that reason.

The community isn't allowed to write pages any more?

It was the capitalisation of "Help" which made it look like it had a particular purpose.

I already have one page designed to look different on different skins and sites without SITEFILTER (to go with the one meant to look the same regardless). Other people already have the SITEFILTER facility with their U-numbers. So to whom were you thinking of marketing this?
